Requirements
Applicants for the visa must:
invest A$5 million in Complying Investments;
submit an Expression of Interest in SkillSelect to be nominated by a state or territory government;
must reside for at least 160 days (out of 4 years);
reside in the state or territory whose government agency nominated you.
The complying investment includes:
Commonwealth, state or territory government bonds;
Eligible managed funds regulated by ASIC - that are limited to investing in any or all of the following Australian assets:
infrastructure projects in Australia
cash held by Australian deposit-taking institutions
bonds issued by the Australian Government or a State or Territory government
bonds, equity, hybrids or other corporate debt in Australian companies and trusts listed on any Australian stock exchange
bonds or term deposits issued by Australian financial institutions
Australian agribusiness
Direct investment into private Australian.
The standard process
After submitting an expression of interest and being nominated by a state or territory government, the applicants will have 60 daysfrom the day receiving an invitation to make an application for a Significant Investor visa at DIAC, to lodge your visa application through SkillSelect.
After holding the provisional Significant Investor visa for four years, the visa holder must spend at least 160 days in Australia and continuously maintain AUD5million into complying investments, and then the permanent visa will be granted for the visa holder.
